China's top legislature summed up its work over the past year in an annual work report released on Monday.
The report of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) was delivered by the committee's chairman Li Zhanshu at the second plenary meeting of the fourth session of the 13th NPC.
The NPC Standing Committee formulated nine new laws, revised 13 existing laws and made eight decisions on legal issues and major issues last year, Li said, adding that they are currently deliberating 23 draft laws.
He said the Standing Committee heard and deliberated 35 reports, inspected the implementation of one decision and six laws, conducted two special inquiries and six research projects, and passed one resolution.
The report also noted the NPC Standing Committee decided to ratify or enter into seven treaties with foreign countries.
"We've reviewed and passed 39 bills covering 259 appointments or removals of state department employees," Li said.
"We deliberated all 506 of the proposals that were referred to us by the presidium of the third session of the 13th NPC. Among these, 22 legislative items addressed in 118 of the proposals were deliberated and adopted, or are currently under deliberation, and 58 legislative items addressed in 168 of the proposals have been included in our five-year legislative program or annual legislative plan," Li noted.
"A total of 9,180 suggestions made by deputies were referred to 194 organizations for handling, with feedback given to deputies. Approximately 71.28 percent of the issues raised in these suggestions were either solved or addressed with plans to resolve them over time," added the chairman.
