The Civil Code, China's first statute styled as a code, seeks to reduce the inconsistencies between the standalone civil statutes enacted over the years and settle some of the novel legal issues. Kong Qingjiang, the dean of the School of International Law at the China University of Political Science and Law, believes that customs are institutionalized expressions of a nation's culture. The amendment will make China's legal system better equipped for infectious disease prevention.
