Tangen on China Ep. 5: How are human rights seen in the West versus the East?
06:46

In the 5th episode of Global Watch's new series with current affairs commentator Einar Tangen, he takes a closer look at how differently human rights are seen in the West and the East. He states that in Asia, due to Buddhism, Confucianism, and Daoism, and in some cases differing levels of economics, human rights have more to do with the balance between the rights of individuals, and their responsibilities to the collective, such as family, friends or country. In the Judeo-Christian democratic free market model, human rights require a ballot box and freedom of expression.
