Carrie Lam, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on March 8 that it is entirely the prerogative and power of the central authorities to introduce changes to Hong Kong's political system. Lam thanked the central government for stepping in to improve Hong Kong’s electoral system, saying it will bring stability and certainty that Hong Kong needs to move on.
