The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Mahn Win Khaing Than as the country's acting vice president.
"Mr. Mahn Win Khaing Than has been appointed vice president to serve as the head of the union government and organize its activities," the committee wrote on Facebook.
The newly appointed vice president will perform the duties of the president in his absence, according to the statement.
Myanmar's new Union Election Commission (UEC) has met representatives of political parties in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, reviewing the electoral process of last year's election since February 5.
A one-year state of emergency was declared in Myanmar after U Win Myint and Aung San Suu Kyi, along with other officials from the National League for Democracy (NLD), were detained by the military on February 1.
Earlier in February, the State Administration Council reformed the Union Election Commission, taking steps to review the process of the general elections.
