China's top legislature, the National People's Congress, passed proposed changes to the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region this week. The changes are designed to plug existing loopholes in Hong Kong's electoral system, to prevent more "radical" politicians from promoting separatism, to safeguard China's sovereignty, security and development interests, and to ensure the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. But when you look at some of the media reports out there, they make it sound as if Beijing is overhauling Hong Kong's entire electoral system, or that this move marks the death knell of democracy, not to mention the deterioration of "One Country, Two Systems." Are these reports giving readers the whole story or swaying opinion in only one direction? What is the real story, what are the changes and what do they mean for Hong Kong? Don't miss this week's Headline Buster.
