China Friday voiced hope for having a frank dialogue on issues of common concern with the U.S., ahead of a high-level strategic dialogue between top diplomats from the two countries scheduled next week.

Speaking at a regular press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said the specific topics of this dialogue are to be agreed upon by both sides, and China will make its position clear during the dialogue.

Calling for bringing China-U.S. relations back on the right track, Zhao said both sides should get a clear understanding of each other's policy intentions and enhance mutual understanding.

The spokesperson noted it is the first high-level contact between China and the U.S. after the phone call between the leaders of the two countries on the eve of the Chinese New Year and is also the first face-to-face meeting between the two countries since the new U.S. administration took office.

"We hope that through the dialogue, the two sides can focus on cooperation, manage differences and promote the healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations in accordance with the spirit of the conversation between the two heads of state."

Zhao reiterated that China's position on Hong Kong, Xinjiang-related issues is consistent and clear, urging the U.S. not to interfere in China's internal affairs.

At the invitation of the U.S. side, Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Alaska on March 18 and 19.
