Almost 29 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to 38 countries and regions through the COVAX scheme, World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a regular media briefing on Friday.

Globally, 335 million doses of vaccine have been administered in 144 economies and 76 percent of those are in ten countries, Tedros added, as he called for a fair vaccine distribution and increasing production of the vaccines.

"The inequitable distribution of vaccines remains the biggest threat to ending the pandemic and driving a global recovery," he said. "We call on all countries not to stockpile supplies that are needed urgently to ramp up production of vaccines."
