A spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the UK has refuted the recent statement made by British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and another joint statement by the Group of Seven foreign ministers and the High Representative of the European Union on the improvement of the electoral system of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). 

Victor Gao, chair professor of Soochow University, says that the Joint Declaration had served its purpose for the HKSAR's transition, and now China's top legislature has the absolute power to make any amendment to the HSKAR's electoral system.
