Improving the electoral system in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will enhance the efficiency of its governance, a senior official said on Sunday.
In a blogpost, Paul Chan, financial secretary of the HKSAR government, said the newly-passed decision by China's top legislature would help fix loopholes and flaws in the city's electoral system and prevent secessionist forces or agents of foreign interests entering Hong Kong's governance structure and undermining the security and interests of the city and the country.
"A stable and interactive political environment will allow us to better pull together efforts to make plans, deploy and promote economic and social development," Chan added.
