The Chang'e-5 lunar probe started its 23-day space journey on November 24, carrying various plant seeds, including 40 grams of rice seeds. These seeds traveled through the Van Allen belts and encountered violent sunspot activity during the trip. It was the first time that Chinese researchers had conducted mutation breeding experiments in deep space. The seeds successfully returned to Earth with the spacecraft. They are being planted in labs and soil at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, southern China. Check out this livestream to see the germinated seeds.
