Iran on Monday called on the United States to lift sanctions and revive Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with six powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said time was running out for the U.S. to revive the nuclear deal because of Iran's upcoming June presidential election, which will entail a waiting period of almost six months.

Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesperson for Iran's foreign ministry, told a weekly news conference that "the U.S. should lift sanctions on Iran and also should give guarantees that Trump's mistakes will not happen again."
