Emergencies are described as "urgent situations in which there is clear evidence that an event, or series of events, has occurred which causes human suffering or imminently threatens lives or livelihoods" by the World Food Programme. To ensure a scientific protocol while facing emergency circumstances can greatly reduce the loss of lives. 

A disaster assistance and emergency relief center was recently opened in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province, to help locals increase life-saving knowledge and gain experience in case emergencies such as earthquakes, fires or accidents occur.
