COVID-19 has seriously damaged international travel, as it continues to threaten the global tourism industry, trade and commerce. In response, “vaccine passports” are being considered as one potential solution, with a few countries leading the way. One of these is China, which recently introduced an electronic program with details showing whether individuals have been inoculated or not. Can “vaccine passports” guarantee safety in the face of borders reopening? How will our lives be re-shaped by this new form of identification? And what challenges lie ahead?
