A virtual event titled "Xinjiang Is a Wonderful Land" was jointly held by China's embassy in Malaysia and the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday, aiming to deepen the understanding of Xinjiang and promote exchanges and cooperation between Xinjiang and Malaysia.

China's ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, chairman of the Xinjiang regional government Shohrat Zakir, and other officials from China and Malaysia, religious institutions and non-governmental organizations, attended the event.

During the event, Ouyang highlighted the rapid economic and social development in Xinjiang and the improvement of people's livelihood under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Regarding the reports of Xinjiang by some Western media, Ouyang said that as a result of ideological prejudices and certain political attempts, some Western institutions and individuals have fabricated a series of lies about Xinjiang without conclusive evidence.

"In the past years, our embassy has invited a number of Malaysian officials, non-governmental organizations and the media to visit Xinjiang who have witnessed the unity of the region," Ouyang said.

"We welcome friends from Malaysia to take more trips and take a look at Xinjiang after the COVID-19 pandemic wanes. I believe the rumors will eventually be self-defeating," he added.

Still, Xinjiang is looking forward to enhancing cooperation and exchanges with Malaysia in many aspects, including agriculture, textile, medicine, culture and tourism, Shohrat Zakir said.

"We hope to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Malaysia in the fields of culture and economy, and benefit the people of the two sides," he said.
