After being cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 ISU World Figure Skating Championships are finally back.
The season-ending event, which has now become the first major international figure skating competition of the season (due to the travel restrictions, almost all Grand Prix events became regional or national competitions), is set for March 24-28 in Sweden's capital Stockholm.
The championships will see Chinese Olympic silver medalists Sui Wenjing and Han Cong come back from injuries to bid for their third world title, Japan's two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu and two-time world champion Nathan Chen from the U.S. going head to head for the first time in over 15 months. Compelling rivalries among Russian rising stars Anna Shcherbakova, Alexandra Trusova and Japan's Rika Kihira are also set to be on full display.
CGTN Sports Talk host Niu Yuan is joined by seasoned figure skating reporter and commentator Zhang Tianyuan to talk about big names to watch in Stockholm, as well as what it means for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
