Hotel Captain Cook is the venue for the China-U.S. High-level Strategic Dialogue on Thursday and Friday, the first face-to-face high-level meeting since U.S. President Biden took office.
The hotel is a four-star luxury hotel spread among three buildings in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. Opened in 1964, it was named for Captain James Cook, the first person to map Alaska's coastline on his final voyage in the 18th century. Its décor recounts Cook's voyages long ago.
Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi are meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in the hotel.
