Ukraine imposed sanctions against former President Viktor Yanukovych and former high-level officials on Friday, according to its National Security and Defense Council.

During a briefing held after a session of the Council, its Secretary Alexei Danilov read out a blacklist of 27 names, which also included former Ukrainian Education Minister Dmitry Tabachnik, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Dmitry Salamatin and others, according to Tass.

"The state of Ukraine has imposed the toughest possible sanctions (on those individuals)," Danilov said.

Later in the day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on his Telegram channel that the sanctions envisage blocking all assets and property of the 27 blacklisted individuals and stripping them of all-state awards.

"This decision by the National Security and Defense Council can be described in two words - it is logical and strange. It is logical that Ukraine is introducing such sanctions, and it's strange that this hasn't been done since 2014," Zelenskiy said.

Representatives of Yanukovich did not respond to a request for comment.

Previous sessions of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council were devoted to imposing sanctions on state officials, other individuals, and companies, including Russian ones.
