China's Chang'e-5 lunar probe started its 23-day space journey on November 24, 2020 with various plant seeds, including 40 grams of rice seeds. These seeds traveled through the Van Allen belts and encountered violent sunspot activity during the trip. It was the first time Chinese researchers conducted mutation breeding experiments in deep space. The seeds successfully returned to Earth aboard the spacecraft and were planted in labs and soil at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province. Check out this livestream to see the germinated seeds sprout.
