On March 19, 2021, during a UN General Assembly meeting to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in New York City, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield claimed that there was "genocide" in Xinjiang, an accusation China firmly rejected.
