The China-EU investment agreement is mutually beneficial rather than a kind of unilateral alms, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing on Wednesday.

Hua's comment was in response to European parliament's decision to cancel a Tuesday meeting on the deal.

China and the EU completed the negotiation of a comprehensive bilateral investment agreement last December after seven years of talks.

The European Commission published some of the key details of the trade deal earlier this month, though they still need to be officially ratified and legally reviewed before coming into force.

The terms of the new trade deal will seek to create a balance in investment between the two. It touched on sectors including healthcare, renewable energy, and the manufacturing of passenger cars.
