The ancient city of Kashgar, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is home to a well-known night market, which is famous for its variety of local delicacies and food culture.

The market, which usually draws hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals throughout the year, has seen hard times amid the coronavirus pandemic in the second half of 2020. But with China having brought the pandemic under control, the hustle and bustle of the bazaar has resumed.

Three people from different cities talked with CGTN at the night market.

Shen Jiaxin from Shenyang of northeast China's Liaoning Province specifically stopped in Kashgar to visit the market. As a meat lover, the mutton skewers are his favorite.

Cai Pengcong, a tourist from Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, bought the mutton offal at the market. He tried it when he first visited Kashgar in 2017, and found it's so different from the food in his hometown, so he decided to come here and have it again.

Local Kashgar resident Muradil also enjoyed the food at the night market, and he thinks it's a must-see place for tourists visiting Kashgar. The last time he came here was last June.

Although China has controlled the COVID-19 pandemic with no new domestic cases, sporadic cases are still being reported. And that's why vendors and customers have been advised to wear face masks.
