U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks on China reflect that American policymakers have misread China, said Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai on Friday.

In an interview with China Media Group (CMG), Cui said the U.S. side has misread China's development goals as well as the current global trend toward multilateralism. He said the U.S. policymakers were aware that the U.S. needed to cooperate with China, but they were also worried that China would overtake its "leading position" in the world.

Cui said that no country is willing to pick sides between China and the U.S., and China wouldn't require any country to do so. However, he cautioned countries not to take the wrong approach when dealing with China, which is coming together as alliances to contain or crack down on China.

The ambassador also criticized certain multinational corporations that were trying to disrupt market operations and the international supply and industrial chains to meet the demands of some interest groups. Such a move will be a "dangerous precedent," warned Cui.

He denied that China and the U.S. are entering a new Cold War as some reports have suggested, adding that the two countries shouldn't do so. He said that China and the U.S. should always deal with the bilateral relations with the principle of no confrontation, no conflict, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

Cold War mentality is against the global trend, and people or policies that go against or can't keep up with the global trends are ultimately ousted, he said.
