The oriental paperbush, or Edgeworthia chrysantha, is a deciduous shrub up to 2 meters tall. It flowers before putting forth leaves. It can be found in the south of China's Yangtze River basin, central China's Henan Province, northwestern Shaanxi Province and other places in the country.

Though some people may not enjoy the scent, it is very attractive to insects, attracting them for pollination.
