The Chang'e-5 lunar probe went through its 23-day space journey from November 24 to December 17, carrying various plant seeds, including 40 grams of rice seeds. These seeds traveled through the Van Allen belts and encountered violent sunspot activity during the trip. It was the first time Chinese researchers had conducted mutation breeding experiments in deep space. The seeds came back to Earth aboard the spacecraft and were planted in labs and soil at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province.

After growing in labs and soil for more than a month, the rice seedlings are being transplanted to the university's experimental field at Zengcheng Teaching and Research Bases on Monday. Check out this livestream to see the seedlings at the new test spot.
