Every team in each group will meet the other two teams twice in Best of One Game (BO1) competitions. The top 2 teams will enter the next round. Judging by the performances of teams from these leagues in international events in recent years, it should not be any problem for teams from the top 3 leagues, LPL, LES and LCK to make it to the next stage No. 1 of their group.

The six teams will be in group in the second stage and play each opponent twice in BO1 before top 4 teams are decided for the final stage. The final 4 will compete two pairs compete in Best of Five Games (BO5) form until one team wins the final championship.

Champion team of MSI will secure an extra spot in this year's World Championship (S11) for its league. Moreover, Riot Games will re-rank all 12 leagues after MSI and give the top one an S11 spot as well. If the champion team comes from the top league, then the league of the runner-up team will receive that extra qualification.
