- At least 51 people were killed in the accident, including 49 passengers and two train drivers. Officials said 146 others were wounded and sent to hospitals.
- One French passenger was among the dead, and two Japanese were injured.
- It will take approximately five days to get the train out of the tunnel where the accident happened.
