Live: Transplanting Chang'e-5's rice seedlings from space – Ep. 36

During its 23-day space journey last year, China's Chang'e-5 lunar probe carried various plant seeds, including 40 grams of rice seeds, which traveled through the Van Allen belts and encountered violent sunspot activity before returning to Earth. It was the first time Chinese researchers conducted mutation breeding experiments in deep space.

Upon their return, the rice seedlings were planted in soil in a lab environment at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, and allowed to grow for more than a month.

Now, they are due to be transplanted to the university's experimental field at Zengcheng Teaching and Research Bases.

Check out this livestream to see the seedlings at the new test spot!
