A senior police officer testified in the murder trial of Derek Chauvin that it was "totally unnecessary" for him to kneel on George Floyd's neck. The testimony from the head of the homicide division for the Minneapolis Police Department came as the first week of the trial ended. Chauvin – now fired from the police force – has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
