During its 23-day space journey last year, China's Chang'e-5 lunar probe carried various plant seeds, including 40 grams of rice seeds, which traveled through the Van Allen belts and encountered violent sunspot activity before returning to Earth. It was the first time that Chinese researchers had conducted mutation breeding experiments in deep space.

Upon their return, the rice seedlings were planted in soil in a lab environment at South China Agricultural University in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, and they grew there for more than a month.

Now, they are being transplanted to the experimental fields in the university's  teaching and research bases in Zengcheng, a district of Guangzhou.
