Sudan's Security and Defense Council on Monday declared a state of emergency in West Darfur State and mandated the regular forces to adopt all necessary measures to end the armed clashes which led to the killing of 18 people.

The council, chaired by Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Monday held an emergency meeting on the incidents. Following the meeting, Sudan's defense minister Yassin Ibrahim Yassin announced that the council has formed a higher committee to deal with the incidents.

The Sudanese Doctors' Committee said earlier on Monday that at least 18 people were killed and 54 others were injured in armed militias' attacks in El Geneina, capital city of Sudan's West Darfur State.
