Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto said on Friday Olympic organizers were in talks with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) about the rescheduling of the diving, marathon swimming, and artistic swimming events.

According to the latest statement of FINA, the Diving World Cup will take place as originally planned between May 1 and 6 in Tokyo.

The competition will serve as both a qualification and test event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The marathon swimming qualifier scheduled for Fukuoka between May 29 and 30 has been moved to Portugal.

The relocated event will be held between June 19 and 20 in Setubal, which was also used for an Olympic qualifier in 2012 and 2016, following the "prompt interest and availability from the Portuguese Swimming Federation," FINA said.

A decision was yet to be taken on artistic swimming qualifiers that were set to take place from May 1 to 4 in Tokyo.

FINA had said last week it was reviewing the status of the events, without specifying a reason, before then marking them as "cancelled" on its website calendar.

FINA said the reschedule events followed "a very fruitful consultation process" with the Japanese government, Japanese Swimming Federation, Tokyo 2020 organizers, and the International Olympic Committee.

"This decision follows confirmation of the detailed procedures for entry and local hosting arrangements in place for the event in Japan during the month of May for all delegations taking part in the event," a FINA statement said.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are set to run from July 23 to August 8.
