A man set himself on fire on Thursday afternoon at Pigalle metro station in Paris, French newspaper Le Figaro has reported. 

The incident took place at around 5:50 p.m. local time (23:50 p.m. BJT). A passenger intervened and put out the fire with an extinguisher.

The victim reportedly received burns to 80 percent of his body and has been hospitalized.

Police have not yet commented on the incident.
