German Chancellor Angela Merkel, along with Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron, attended a virtual summit on Friday, and the three leaders exchanged views on cooperation, climate change and biodiversity, according to a statement released by Merkel's office.
During the meeting, Xi reiterated China's ambitious climate target to bring the country's carbon dioxide emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
Leading with action: China in the fight for carbon-neutral future
Both Merkel and Macron welcomed China's commitment and voiced support to China's efforts in cutting carbon emission, the statement said.
They also agreed to put more efforts to protecting the world's biodiversity, and to coordinate with China regarding the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity to be held in China's Kunming in October.
The three leaders also exchanged views on China-Europe relations, anti-pandemic cooperation, and major international and regional issues.
