A total of 23,407 prisoners, including 137 foreign nationals, were released in Myanmar's New Year's amnesty, the national broadcaster reported on Saturday.
Most of the prisoners were sentenced before the end of January while some were arrested after February 1.
Myanmar typically grants an annual amnesty to thousands of prisoners to mark its traditional Buddhist New Year holiday.
According to the order announced by Myanmar's State Administration Council, those still in custody also got varying commutations.
