China on Monday called for joint efforts from the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations to enhance confidence-building and dialogue in conflict prevention and resolution.

Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative Wang Yi, also Chinese state councilor and foreign minister, made the remarks when attending an open debate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

In his speech, Wang urged all member states to take actions under the guidance of the UN Charter and respect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Viewing the Charter as the cornerstone of cooperation between the UN and regional and subregional organizations, Wang called on all parties to refrain from the use of force or threat and any provocation on ideological confrontation.

Reiterating China's commitment to peaceful development, Wang proposed to take preventive diplomacy as the priority and implement a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept with concrete efforts.

Recognizing the leading role of the UN and its security council in coordinating disputes, the Chinese foreign minister hopes the UN and regional and subregional organizations could exchange their experience in settling disputes so as to learn from each other and contribute to the international peace and security.

According to Wang, the idea of common development can help promote peace. He hopes the UN and regional organizations could push forward the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to improve livelihoods and employment as well as to narrow regional development gap.

He also hopes regional organizations would contribute to regional connectivity constructions and help post-conflict countries get integrated into regional development.

Noting this year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of China's lawful seat at the United Nations, Wang said that China is always a positive supporter and participant of the UN course as well as the firm defender and practitioner of the UN Charter.

China always supports cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, said Wang, adding that the country has also established strategic partnership with African Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Arab League.

Reiterating such cooperation should never target a third party, Wang said that China is ready to enhance cooperation with all regional organizations to build a community with a shared future for mankind with joint efforts.
