A steppe fire in Mongolia's border province Sukhbaatar was extinguished on Monday, said the country's emergency management agency.

The grassland fire, which erupted on Sunday, burned around 1,800 square kilometers, said local authorities.

Hundreds of people, including firefighters, local residents and soldiers, battled to contain the fire.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
