Pakistan's National Command Operation Center (NCOC) on Monday said it will ban entry of those traveling by air or by land from India for two weeks, local media reported.

The NCOC said the move was to prevent the "double mutant" COVID-19 variant detected in India from transmitting into Pakistan.

India recorded 259,170 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 15,321,089, according to the data released by the Indian health ministry on Tuesday.

A total of 1,761 more deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 180,530.
