The U.S. State Department said on Monday it will boost its "Do Not Travel" guidance to about 80 percent of countries worldwide, citing "unprecedented risk to travelers" from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This update will result in a significant increase in the number of countries at Level 4: Do Not Travel, to approximately 80 percent of countries worldwide," the department said in a statement.

According to Reuters, this move means 130 more countries and regions will be listed in the guidance. 

So far, the U.S. has reported 31.7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, the most in the world, with the death toll at 567, 690, according to data released by Johns Hopkins University.
