The April Lyrid meteor shower takes place between April 16 and 26 each year, ending the period of meteor drought that lasts from January to mid-April. The radiant of the meteor shower is located in the constellation Lyra, near its brightest star, Vega. The shower typically peaks around April 22 each year. It is counted among the oldest known meteor showers, with records of sightings going back as far as 2,700 years ago. In fact, ancient Chinese are said to have seen this meteor shower in 687 BC.
