Myanmar military Chief Min Aung Hlaing landed in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, on Saturday for an afternoon meeting with leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the Myanmar situation.
The ASEAN is composed of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Political tensions in Myanmar have sharply escalated since the military takeover on February 1.
Earlier this week, China expressed hope that the ASEAN meeting could play a positive role in de-escalating tensions in Myanmar and send positive messages to the outside world.
