More than 800 homegrown brands from 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland will participate in the first China International Consumer Products Expo in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, the organizers said Saturday.

Co-hosted by China's Ministry of Commerce and the Hainan provincial government, the grand event covers an exhibition area of 80,000 square meters and is expected to become the largest boutique exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region.

Of that space, 60,000 square meters have been allotted for international exhibitions featuring fashion, jewelry, food and supplements, hospitality, and professional services.

Over 800 domestic enterprises will take part in the expo, including Huawei, Gree, Hikvision, BYD, XPeng, Chinese liquor Moutai and China's iconic sedan brand Hongqi.

The exhibits range from traditional Chinese handicrafts, new energy vehicles and accessories, drones, Chinese liquors to e-sports equipment and other consumer products.

In one example, the Shanghai Pavilion at the first consumer products expo will focus on "new brands and new consumption" and showcase Qipao featuring the majestic dragon and lucky phoenix, F1 e-sports equipment, and White Rabbit creamy candies, to name just a few.

Some 1,200 global brands from 69 countries and regions signed up for the gathering, with Switzerland serving as the guest country of honor.

Leading international brands including Swatch of Switzerland, Swarovski of Austria, Shiseido of Japan, and Dell, Tesla and Coach of the United States, have confirmed their participation.

The expo, scheduled from May 7 to 10, is expected to attract more than 10,000 merchants and over 200,000 visitors, according to the organizers in late March.

Besides the opening ceremony, the organizers will also hold a forum on consumption innovation, duty-free shopping and the travel retail industry, said the organizers.
