Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday hailed the bilateral ties between China and Laos on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in a congratulatory message exchanged with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, also general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee.

Viewing China and the Laos as good friends and comrades with unbreakable friendship, President Xi said the two countries have always supported each other with mutual trust and sincerity.

The bilateral relations, according to Xi, set an example in carrying forward and implementing the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, bring tangible benefits to the well-being of the two peoples, and make great contribution to the joint building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

China attaches great importance to developing ties with Laos, Xi reaffirmed, adding that the two countries should always be good neighbors, good friends and good partners.

Noting that the year marks the 60th anniversary of China-Laos diplomatic relations, Xi stressed that he is willing to work with Thongloun to implement the action plan on the China-Laos community with a shared future, enhance high-level exchanges and upgrade pragmatic cooperation so as to push forward the bilateral relations to a higher level in the next 60 years.

Viewing the bilateral ties as being at their historical best, Thongloun, for his part, said Laos is ready to enhance comprehensive strategic cooperation and expand friendly exchanges with China in all fields.

Thongloun also expressed appreciation for China's generous support to his country in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and social development.

On the same day, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also exchanged congratulatory message with Lao Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh.

In his message, Premier Li said he hopes the two countries would continue consolidating political mutual trust and promoting win-win cooperation to inject greater impetus into the bilateral strategic cooperation.
