Chinese companies have been working against the clock to manufacture oxygen concentrators, one of the most needed medical supplies for India, which has been ravaged by the coronavirus in recent days.
Sun Weidong, China's ambassador to India, tweeted on Wednesday that Chinese suppliers are "working overtime" on at least 25,000 orders for oxygen concentrators from India in recent days. Cargo planes are ready, and Chinese customs will facilitate the relevant process, the ambassador wrote.
A company based in east China's Jiangsu Province, with an annual capacity of 1 million oxygen concentrators, has recently established an emergency team to focus on speeding up products for India. Yang Shengping, deputy director of No.1 Factory of Yuwell Medical Equipment, said employees now have been working for at least one or two extra hours a day to meet the demand at the moment.
"Orders from India have jumped dramatically recently, and we are able to meet the demand at the moment," said Zhao Shuai, deputy president at Yuwell Medical Equipment.
India is experiencing the brunt of a new outbreak. The country's death toll due to COVID-19 surpassed the 200,000 mark on Wednesday. In addition to Yuwell, other Chinese firms have also been actively offering help. Chinese tech giant Xiaomi also donated some 1,000 oxygen concentrators to India last week.
The Chinese government has repeatedly made it clear that it will help India fight against the virus.
Meanwhile, other countries, including the United States, France, Germany and Russia, in the recent week have offered support to help India fight against the second outbreak of COVID-19. The World Health Organization has also sent medical supplies and 2,600 staff to India.
