Turkey has entered its first national coronavirus lockdown as infections continue to rise. Restrictions began on Thursday and will last through the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan till May 17. Under the lockdown, intercity travel is banned except when necessary. All commercial businesses are closed and schooling has been moved online. Turkey had previously managed to avoid a full lockdown, but the loosening of partial restrictions has unleashed a new wave of infections.
