President Xi sends sympathy to Modi, reiterates China's support to India

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday sent a message of sympathy to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent escalation of the coronavirus pandemic in India.

In his message, Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as in his own name, expressed sincere sympathy to the government and people of India.

Stressing that the destiny of all mankind is closely related, Xi said that global cooperation is the only way to defeat the pandemic.

He reassured Modi that China is ready to enhance COVID-19 cooperation with India and ready to offer the Indian side necessary support and assistance.

Xi also expressed his confidence that the people of India, under the leadership of the Indian government, are capable of winning the battle against COVID-19.

India is experiencing the brunt of a new outbreak. Data from the Federal Health Ministry shows that the country's COVID-19 tally reached 18,762,976 on Friday, as 386,452 new cases were recorded during the past 24 hours with as many as 3,498 deaths across the country since Thursday morning, bringing the total death toll to 208,330.
