The favorability ratings towards the U.S. have seen a drop in China since U.S. President Joe Biden took office, although the ratings in all other countries improved significantly.

In a Morning Consult survey published on Tuesday, the ratings rose in 12 out of 14 countries since Biden's January 20 inauguration.

China was the only country that recorded a significant drop, with unfavorable ratings climbing from 65 to 74 percent and favorable ratings dropping from 21 to 17 percent.

Reference News, a Chinese newspaper founded by Xinhua, commented on Saturday that the drop in the Chinese public's view reflected the overall decline in U.S.-China relations.

The Biden administration has been seen adopting former President Donald Trump's containment policy towards China.

At a press conference in March, Biden said he would prevent China from passing the U.S. to become the most powerful country in the world under his watch.

The number also reflects that the American "myth" as a "beacon of democracy" has been shattered by Washington's failure in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, the systematic racism exposed by the "Black Lives Matter" movement, and the shocking Capitol riots over the past year, Reference News said.

The newspaper also pointed out the reason behind the worsening perceptions from people of both countries is the toxic behavior by U.S. politicians.

A polling number published earlier by Gallup shows that Americans' favorability ratings of China have plummeted to a record low of 20 percent, a 13-percentage point drop from 33 percent a year ago.
