India's central health ministry on Tuesday said the number of coronavirus infections had surged past the 20-million mark, with more than 357,000 cases and over 3,400 deaths in the past 24 hours. The Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament was suspended indefinitely after weeks of criticism only after multiple players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. In Delhi, the local government requested the army to navigate logistics and run COVID-19 care facilities and ICUs. The opposition Congress party demanded the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to impose a nationwide lockdown to curb the new catastrophic wave. Indian news media reported that 20 flights had arrived with foreign aid, but a large number of oxygen concentrators, as well as medicines, used for coronavirus treatment, remain stuck at customs for week.
