Singapore on Tuesday announced tighter restrictions on social gatherings and stricter border measures after reporting increased number of COVID-19 cases over the last week.

From May 8 to 30, social gatherings will be capped at five people and only 50 percent of staff at workplace will be allowed, authorities said.

All inbound travelers except those from Australia, Brunei, China and New Zealand will need to be quarantined for 21 days. Currently, only travelers from India are subjected to the 21-day quarantine.

On Tuesday, Singapore confirmed five new local cases after reporting very few local infections for months.
