Boasting of more than 1,000 exhibitors, the first China International Consumer Products Expo also puts its venue under the spotlight. The Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center (HICEC) is a multi-functional convention and exhibition complex expected to be a new landmark on south China's island province of Hainan.
Covering a total construction area of 135,200 square meters, the HICEC Phase I has exhibition halls able to host large exhibitions with 2,300 booths and conference halls with a 2,000-plus seating capacity.
The second phase of HICEC, which was put into operation last September, has a total construction area of 198,600 square meters.
Both phases of the projects are in the shape of a spread-wing seagull, integrating into the seaside scenery. The unique shape was achieved after designers and the construction team worked together to overcome the technical challenges of building huge steel structures while taking energy-saving, wind resistance, and corrosion prevention into consideration.
For health safety concerns, masks will be required at all times, and all staffs including volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated before on duty at the expo. Health code and body temperature checks are a routine procedure for anyone wish to enter the venue.
